Why: To give an experience that shines through life!
All participating musicians will immerse themselves into the inspiring realm of chamber music alongside our team of artists, integrating the physical and cognitive aspects of collaborative performance. This program empowers aspiring musicians to lean into their highest form, cultivating a true sense of self that allows them to experience excellence on stage and in life.
Every student is paired with like-minded musicians in a chamber music ensemble guided by a mentor. Sharing the stage with professionals is undoubtedly memorable, but collaborating with them in rehearsals all week is the true key to development. Time allows for ideas, muscles, breath, and sleep to integrate and inspire!
Making music visible through harmonious bodily movement allows us to feel, express, and master the flow that is an integral part of creating music. Through these interactive activities and exercises, students learn to develop and trust their own intuitions.
More than Music
Through integrating the physical and cognitive aspects of collaborative performance, students will gain invaluable understanding in communication, listening, movement, breathing, intention, creativity, and perserverence.
From rehearsals to the stage
Playing alongside professional musicians in a chamber music setting gives the opportunity of hands-on experience. This helps improve artistic skill and facilitates all facets of the human experience; communicating, sharing, planning, and executing.
Family and friends are always welcome to attend the final concert, where students will exercise their development of performing in every sense of the word.
“Dr. Johnathan Spence has an energy that is contagious. His knowledge, joy, and love of music is equalled only by his determination to share music with everyone through teaching and performing. He challenges every student, giving them the tools and confidence needed to play to the next level. My daughter, Gabrielle, spent four years as his student. The skills she has gained over the years from Chamber Music Week and private lessons has allowed her to continue her musical journey into college. She has blossomed into a strong, confident violin player and is able to conquer any piece of music.” -Sara C.
“Dr. Spence is an exceptional violin teacher. His enthusiasm, energy and love of music inspire my daughter to excel in her performance. We highly recommend ‘Spence’, as my 16 year old calls him.” -Cheryl S.
“Spence has been working with my son for viola for two years now. He is an extraordinary instructor and performer that is able to connect to his students. He gives formative feedback that has helped to challenge my son to grow in his craft without becoming frustrated. He has always been accommodating, professional, and supportive. He has been influential in developing my son's love of music. Highly recommend.” -Kathy B.
Grow through music
Because everyone’s financial situation is different, we offer scholarships to those who need financial assistance. This program has been shaping young musicians for the last six years and will continue to do so for many, many more.
